The\u00a0frogs mate in a position which is called amplexus.\u00a0 The male,\u00a0who is smaller than the female, rides on the back of the female for days.\u00a0 As the female releases her eggs, the male releases his sperm and fertilizes the eggs.\u00a0 Because the frogs may go into hibernation for another month in this position, the size of the\u00a0egg is much larger and gives the tadpole a better chance for survival.\u00a0 Thus, the survival rate of the European common frog\u00a0has better odds than the survival rate of other frogs.<\/p>\n
