While The War Raged, This Is What Happened To Its People
The War Came To Slovakia And These Were Bitter Times
The character Sam endures one hardship after another in his attempt to live out the war. On page 95 of The Grayling Hidden Truth Poems, the text of the novel reads, “A mist hovered over the trunks and branches of the trees, making it hard to see, but Sam knew his way. “There are always clusters of trees”, he muttered to himself, and he remembered what Joseph had taught him, “walk closely to the trees”. He felt like a shadow—-traveling amongst the trees, moving cautiously and n step with all the creatures, who knew that the woods were their only habitat.”
