There Was No Such Thing As Celebrating The New Year, Rosh Hashanah In War Torn Slovakia
By Cheryl Freier
Every bit of food was a gift—almost like a gift from the sky—and as was written in The Grayling Hidden Truth Poems, ….” We knew not to expect a visit from my father’s foreman with a new bag of cans. It would be dangerous for the foreman, and we did not want anything to happen to him. We had to begin rationing our food supply. From the lack of food, we started to weaken. We could see the starvation was robbing us of our strength. The colors of our eyes got darker, almost pitch black and the shape of our eyes grew rounder and more pronounced……”

And So the Words On Page 10 Read As The Following:
(From The Grayling Hidden Truth Poems – www.thegraylinghiddentruthpoems.com)
….”the air. They passed through the other side of the dark curtain of death, which descended into the earth a long way down. Joseph said his family stayed in the woods until Joseph’s guide stood up and raised his hand, pointing his hand in the direction of their town. With hopes diminished for escape, they trudged home, never muttering a word. Martin prayed silently for deliverance….”

Feel The Rhythm Of The Words Resounding And Echoing In The Novel, The Grayling Hidden Truth Poems
….”It was very common to see: men going in alone, women going in alone, men and women walking as a couple, fathers and mothers holding their children by their hands—they all walked into the sanctuary, each with a hope of connecting with God in the spiritual as well as the worldly way. Even the smallest child seemed to understand that a feeling of warmth and love was in the air; and that this special spirit was undeniably part of G-d……”

From Stories Told By People Who Survived The Holocaust In Nazi Slovakia www.thegraylinghiddentruthpoems.com
From the novel, The Grayling Hidden Truth Poems, the following words are from page 95, …”He broke off a few of the taller branches. “All right”, he said, “trees die too”. He began to deftly put together a raft with the wood, putting the branches together; and tying them with strong weeds for twine; in his mind he visualized the raft as a magical raft, which could take him and his family far out to sea to an Island where there was prayer all day—and everyone could practice his religion, and where there was not the day-to-day searching for food. His thoughts were interrupted—for she came over to him.

How The Freier Family Survived In The Woods of Micholovce During The Nazi Seize
My mother-in-law told me, “We were helped by good Christian people, otherwise we would not have survived”. Written on page 93 are the following words….”Joseph’s devoted friend, his foreman, had secretly carried the blankets and coats in a wagon late one evening. When the foreman’s horse would not go into the deep woods, he himself made a stretcher from wood and he put the coats and blankets on the top of it, and pulled it along until he came to the hideout…..”

From page 121 of the Grayling Hidden Truth Poems
Powerful thoughts and words from the novel written in memoriam to her husband, Martin Freier, from page 121 of the novel……” Shortly, Joseph appeared in front of them suddenly, at first like a shadow kn the back of a dark curtain. His finger was pointing to his mouth, and Martin shook his head, and nodded “Yes” that he understood. ….”

From the novel, The Grayling Hidden Truth Poems, in Chapter 10 Escape To the Nearby Woods
Taken from page 51, “the door to the house was open. They walked in and Joseph closed the door behind them. Joseph said, “We shall sleep here tonight, but this is a terrible war, and the Nazis will be back with more vengeance, and we may not be as lucky the next time. Luck has a way of running out. Tomorrow we leave. We will live in the woods.” No one said a word. They all knew that Joseph was right. They knew that Joseph had saved their lives thus far”. From the Novel, the Grayling Hidden Truth Poems
Blog Written by Cheryl Freier
The words are taken from Chapter 4 – THEN THE GERMANS CAME: “Then one day Henry saw a lot of dust of clouds on the ground, moving like the wind and he knew. We were spared nearly one year. What Henry spotted was two motorcycles coming towards out town. He ran down the hill, one foot running forward and then the other running even faster—just like wheels with spokes—his feet turning and turning”.
